In 1975 and 1976, renowned underground photojournalist, Kim Gottlieb, and her husband, Jeff Walker, head of publicity for Island Records in the US, documented what is now recognized as the Golden Age of Reggae and the introduction of Bob Marley with The Wailers’ new lineup to US audiences.

Traveling across Jamaica and in exclusive meetings in Los Angeles, Kim photographed most of the major reggae artists, musicians and producers of that legendary era, including Peter Tosh, Bunny Wailer, Toots Hibbert, Burning Spear, Jacob Miller, Third World, “Scratch” Perry and many others, as well as shooting hundreds of photos of Bob Marley— in his home in Jamaica and in Southern California – in interviews, performances, photo sessions, backstage at LA’s Roxy (where Bob met George Harrsion) and relaxing behind the scenes.
Included is an overview of this era’s importance in music written by the world’s leading reggae historian Roger Steffens as well as reminiscences by Island’s Jeff Walker and acclaimed rock journalist/director Cameron Crowe (“Almost Famous”), who Jeff and Kim invited to Jamaica with them in 1976 to witness the burgeoning music scene thriving there somewhere between paradise and turmoil. This book will give you an exclusive glimpse into this brief, but incredibly prolific period.
“Bob Marley and the Golden Age of Reggae” features many never-before-seen photos, as well as the most popular cover ever shot for High Times magazine and outtakes from that famous cover shoot. Virtually none of the other photos seen in this book have been published in over 30 years and have been compiled here for the first time.
