LES PIONNIERS DU REGGAE EN FRANCE – REVIEW

Les Pionniers du reggae en france is a very good book about the development of reggae music in France written by Joseph Musso for les editions laboutiquedes artistes.

It’s a book full of anecdotes, interviews and never seen before images and memorabilia so it’s a must for those who loves reggae and Bob Marley. Yes because Joseph recalls with interviews and articles from newspapers and magazine archives  all the concert Bob did in France. There are 3 UNPULISHED photos from the concert in Nantes and the poster of Bob’s first tour date in Paris, 10 may 1977

The chapter 1 is about the reggae in France, chapter 2 is about the first reggae concerts (Dave Barker, Cimarons, Marley, Peter Tosh, Matumbi etc) chapter 3 talks about how the media covered reggae and rasta, chapter 4 is about the reggae audience (with a rememberance of  Bob in Bordeaux), Serge Gainsbourg is the protagonist of the chapter 5. Chapter 6 tells the story of the fist french reggae artist who went in Jamaica, chapter 7 the story of the soound system in France, chapter 8 the reggae francophone from Europe, Africa and America.

In the portfolio section, besides the above quoted photos of Bob in Nantes and the poster of his first french tour date, there is also a photo of Bob, Jean Pierre Weiller and the boss of Phonogram in 1980 and covers magazine and posters from the reggae scene in France

This is the story of the first reggae pioneers in France with started with lot of passion but few available means. You can live again Bob’s concerts in France through interviews with people who attendend the shows. Journalist Bertrand Lavaine wrote the foreword. A Must have not only for french readers but for all reggae fans in the world!
