View Full Version : I KNOW
Well my friends i have a question for you all.
On Confrontation (1983) is the track I KNOW, released in 1981 as a single as requested by bob and was original an outtake of the rastaman vibration sessions (1975) Well it's on of my favorite bob tunes. But in some bob marley books and many cd reviewers (also on internet stores like amazon) people said this is one of the worst marley tracks, there is one person who said that he think this is the worst recording made by a major star on a major label??????????? well i think it's one of the most beautifull marley songs! I like to know what's your opinion about this (beatifull) song.....

I like the lyrics, I don't like the music arrangments: it's not marley style
yes, good lyrics bad music
Hi Marco,
Nice advater!!!!
The lyrics are beatifull well i have to admid that i prefer the single version above the confrontation version. Maybe the song is not on the right position....on the album and i think the song is louder than the rest of the songs on the album, i think they had put the drumming intro that is on the single version on the album, now you got something like WHOO! but beside that and when i listen to the single version i truly believe it's one of the most beatifull marley songs! and the arangement of the beginning sounds like i shot the sherrif to me.....but listen to the original single version of rastaman live up, also i little bit like that......
But i know what you mean, thanks for your reply my friends....
And about the music, well i don't know. Bob did a lot of different things and well about the music...the feel on the single is nicer than the album version but in my opinion still beatufull but i have to admid, that I know is one of the most beatifull but there are bob songs that have nicer music. Beside that my favorite confrontation track is and will always be "trenchtown" but i prefer the demo and single version also above the confrontation version......i don't know why this song was not put on survival or uprising (i don't know during wich sessions)?? i wisch there was a good live recording of it...imagine....during a concert bob sings give me........and the audience replies with TRENCHTOWN......could have been wonderfull!

I agree... not Marley's style.
I really like it. It's been described as one of Bob's first disco/cross-over tracks, but there's nothing really wrong with it in my opinion.
I agree. A very nice and emotional track!

the musical arrangement is not my taste... but the lyrics are what makes this song good.
IMHO a great song transcends that time and generations. Lyrics are great, universal common to everyman. Music is good and the delivery of lyrics (Marley) like no other.
Great song, but I admit it could take time to appreciate it.
Aside from Buffalo Solider, it was the first song I heard from Confrontation just before it's release.
The lyrics touched a nerve for me as I was having a difficult time personally back then, so I always have a soft spot for it.
It does have a more "uptown" flavour musically, maybe a bit more of the Third World sound than Wailers style, but I love it all the same.
...on any of the ISLAND era albums. This is the only Bob Marley track I find hard to like. Bob?s voice seems far too strained and I must confess I?m not very fond of the disco ambitions on this one. Not a suprise Marley omitted it from any of his albums.
Big up, to ya all!
