View Full Version : VIDEOS Roger Steffens (RoJah) Ark-Hive video
Hi Everybody,
Roger turned me onto this recently filmed and released video of this collection. Have a look at the video. For those of who that have not had a chance to visit and may never get the chance, this video will give a nice (short) glimpse at what Roger has amassed . It is a bonus to have Roger narrate the video with some nice music.
The film-maker is a young white Jamaican radical bookstore owner,
recently returned to JA. En route he spelunked inna de ark-hives dem.
Follow his journey through a few things Marley at:

absolutely amazing!!! never seen before..... wow
not that I want to critize the man...but he, too makes that mistake of mentioning a tape of the Gabone show when we all know this is one of the most often mislabelled concerts, the 1979 oakland show...in depth knowledge of marley's live shows is not his strength
I went to high school with the guy that took this video
That's great Dane. It is a very well produced video!

no, he does not, at least not when it comes to marley live shows...he has some of those super rape tosh videos and I'd estimate a dozen or so CDs with alternate mixes of marley studio songs

i secound that , he seem's too have aquired alot threw age's , but alot mix up on the knowing in what he has. even radio broadcast i have on him with memorial & tribute shows , there seems to be a lot of wrong information again.
maybe time line scorpion has stung him ?
ie; he is getting old , loseing memory ?
last thought though..what happens to rogers collection when he pass's , for we know nobody lives forever...donate too ja musuem ? or auction ?
Roger happens to have one of the best memories I have ever seen. He can name years and dates and names and places almost better than anybody I have ever been around. Maybe when it comes to these live shows etc.., he is not spot on compared to some, but maybe that's is because the end all and be all of Bob Marley is not these live shows. There is so much more to the whole Marley legacy that many don't seem to care about. I ask questions over the years about books, posters, promotional material, adverts from other countries etc.. and get very little response. You say you have a new audience recording of this show or that show and everybody goes nuts. Roger looks at the whole Bob legacy as a whole, you see how much emphasis he puts on those buttons, magazines, original vinyl, other stuff besides just the live shows.
You must keep in mind the amount of material this guys has. Take everything you own related to Bob marley and times it by 500,000. Boxes with tapes show up at his house daily unsolicited from people. He is a very busy guy, more busy that ever and quite frankly has bigger fish to fry than disecting these live shows.
There will be no donation to a JA museum. They can buy it if they want it. Roger is what, 68 maybe going on 69? Hell, he may have 20 more years in him. For now, much of the memorabilia that was on display at the Queen Mary has moved to the Music Preservation Project. You can see photos on my website.
Ice, I thought Roger was the god father of one of your kids. Why even bring up negativity just to point out some silly nonsense mistake. Just seems crazy to me and no need for it. I sense some hostility when it comes to you and Roger that past year or so. Has somethig happened between you two?
I have much respect for all of you guys (Ice being one of the best) when it comes to these live shows and set lists. I know Ice is currently working on a very important project that will serve Marley lovers for years to come. It's about time somebody buckle down and document all of the shows and setlists in a book. In order for it to be sealed in history and be useful to as many people as possible it must be in a book form.
I would think by now we should have strong information to why each set list was the way it was with no theories. Somebody in the camp by now has to have said "this is why we chose these songs or these songs for this show or tour and this was Bob's take on it etc...."
Love :)
he has some of those super rape tosh videos
Not sure I'd like to see those. :)
I did not bring up any negativity, not at all - I pointed out a mistake made, period. I even added that this was not meant as criticism, just a correction. Of course one may call this "mistake" or me pointing it out silly, on the other hand on this very board we discuss what kind of shirt marley wore on certain days...I personally ind this information less important than the question if there is a show from Gabone circulating or not
apart from that, you are correct in pretty all you described...he does not spend any time on analysing what live shows he has or what live shows he gets...I know as a fact that in his drawer there is a tape labelled "1980 frankfurt" and this tape has been sitting there for at least 16 years, that's when I first noticed it (and found out it was Milan 1980)
we all have our special interests, Joe with the books, Marco with the interviews and pictures, me with the live shows and studio material...and Roger's special interest is none of these
last not least: he stopped trading many many years ago so what he has today is pretty much all dated from way back when, before the internet was invented...obviously back then more stuff was mislabelled than today

I still trade with Rojah couple times a year, even Marley/Tosh.
Ice, I know you and Rog go way back and have a tight relationship. I didn't really know how to make that post, I guess I just felt like I needed to stick up for the guy. In the end, I really don't need to. Roger is big boy who does not need me to point out his strengths. I just feel that with all of the good he does and has done for many of us and the Bob Marley/reggae community that even when he says a mistake on a little internet video such as this one that it should just be overlooked. But at the same time, I hear you. This forum is about thorough accuracy! We know Gabon is so mislabeled that there are official bootleg AMJ CDs labeled as Gabon. But I did want to correct that as you know his memory is pretty darn good. I don't know...... it's all good. One Love :)

well, when I wrote "he stopped trading" I was quoting his own words - of course he still does occasionally still swap CDs etc, especially with people he knows for a longer time
Any New Video That surfaces At this point will be greatly appreciated no matter what
