Answered: Bob & Peter

Why didn't that songwriting parnership not go on to great things like Lennon/McCartney & Jagger/Richards ? After all the reggae classic " Get Up Stand Up" was a true diamond. Maybe Marley & Tosh never really got on, after all.

To be honest, I don't think Tosh and Marley really were a partnership anyway.

One may have added an idea to the others songs, but basically Bob would do his thing and Peter work on his, whereas Lennon/McCartney often collaborated as well as working individually (many songs credited as Lennon/McCartney are actually just the work of one of the writers.)

A lot of the songs on the Island Records albums were originally recorded and written during the Tosh/Marley/Livingston partnership. This includes songs like Satisfy My Soul, One Love, Kaya, Cry To Me, Lively Up Yourself, Bend Down Low, Who The Cap Fit and others. So while I think the partnership, if it lasted, would have gone on to Greater things there is no question that they already wrote some great songs. Lennon/McCartney didn't last forever either and we all know the stories of them not getting along..

I don't want to devalue or be offensive... but peter tosh is not comparable to bob marley as songwriter
so if bob marley can be considered the mccartney of the wailers I think that peter is not the lennon of the wailers
bob was the main songwriter, a superbe songwriter
that's why most of the wailers songs are only bob's songs (peter and bunny only "decorated" bob's music, as peter himself said)

p.s. why must I cry was another marley/tosh song

Bob Marley himself was a better songwriter than Lennon, McCartney, Dylan, Jagger combined. All of them-anybody you can name. His songs will go on much longer. I think for a couple of reasons. The main reason is that his songs actually say something ( a few of all of theirs do, but most are just typical bubble gum weird don't say nothing lyrics) , 2-his songs and lyrics are so plain and simple anybody can understand what he is talking about. There is no ambiguity or anything like that.

As far as Tosh I believe he is just as talented as Lennon or any of those guys. I think Hendrix was just as talented at songwriting than any of those guys and he could play his guitar 100% better than all of them combined. Stevie Wonder is also incredible.

But another thing Bob had over everybody was consistency. He only got better and better and better. Never a lull in my opinion. No one else can say that, not even Jimi. Forever Loving JAH is just as good if not better thn anything he had written before. Same with Bad Card, One Drop, Africa Unite etc... you could go on and on.

I know this was about both Bob and Peter and I just feel that no one could keep up with Bob. He was simply a gift from God put on the earth to do what he did. How can any other songwriter compete with that.

Now what do you think about those crazy opinions?

And don't forget Bob alone wrote Get Up Stand Up. Peter inserted one small verse. Bob wrote the song.

Bob Marley is the Bob Marley of the 21st century. There is no replacement. Just like there will never be another Mozart there will never be another Bob.

yes, i dont really like peters version, he made it into to much of a anti-christian song, and i dont think that is what it was written for.

I'll have to disagree, i think lennon was deffinatly one of the best song writers of all time, in my opinion the socond best next to bob. (just listen to "imagine"!

i agree Joe... what i wanted to say is that this man could probably have (in my opinion) a very large impact on people... and he has not the same style of bob at all (fortunately... that would be silly, it is impossible to imitate bob) but i listen a lot to bob marley since five years or so.... i have meditated many time on his music and i felt in the depth of my soul and heart that this man (bob marley) was at the best of what human creativity, talent and consciousness could ever be.... and i just feel the same with groundation.... and these two are the only one who have ever penetrated my heart so deeply in music....
