Unanswered: "Exodus" and "Kaya" background vocals
most of you will have read it in John Masouri's book but to some it may still come as a surprise:
according to Aston Barrett, Marcia Griffiths sang ALL the female background vocal parts on ALL songs that were originally published on "Exodus" and "Kaya"...this account was confirmed by Marcia herself, who told Roger Steffens so during an interview some years ago...I called Roger last night and he said "yes, that's what Marcia explained"
apparently Bob and Rita had a fight, Rita, for example, is said to have refused to sing on "Waiting in vain" and "Turn your Lights down low", two tracks that were certainly not written for her, and Judy took side with Rita, so it was all up to Marcia
good question Marco!
but it true, I also heard about Rita not willing to sing on those 'love' songs.
Just a thing that comes to my mind: maybe this is related to the fact that there are quite a lot of male backing vocals on these songs (Exodus, Heathen,...)
greetings
This is really interesting. When I get home I'm going to take a look in my collection. Somewhere I think I have Exodus and/or Kaya albums with the voice mix extracted. I also have demos and rehearsals. I wonder if Rita and Judy didn't participate in any of the sessions or just didn't contribute on the album?
