Oneworld has acquired the third novel by The Book of Night Women author, Marlon James.
Publisher Juliet Mabey acquired UK and Commonwealth rights in a “strong five-figure pre-empt” from agent Claire Roberts at Trident Media Group. Lined up for publication in 2013, A Brief History of Seven Killings is a political thriller about the attempted assassination of Bob Marley and his family in Jamaica in 1976.
Mabey said: "James is such an incredibly talented writer, with a strong, distinctive voice, that I couldn’t help falling in love with his writing all over again. I would have been absolutely devastated if we hadn’t secured this extraordinary novel.
"It is utterly compelling from the first page, and my biggest problem is having to wait to read the final chapters.”

dear fabio, I think is fiction, not reality, a romanticized novel
but I don't wanna speak too soon, the book will be published in 2013, we need more details

why?
did Bob know who tried to kill him?
did some of the gunmen get killed in front of Bob?
were some of the gunmen on tour with Bob hanging out?

I was listening to an old Reggae Beat radio show with Roger Steffens who had Tyrone Downie aka Jumpy on the show and they talked about this. Tyrone said, he was told some of the gunmen were hanging with them on tour and Bob knew who they were. He said Bob 100% knew who tried to kill him.
So Marco, you think it was all tied to Skill and the horse track? Nothing political? I probably agree with you.

At that time in Jamaica politicians and delinquency were very close: some common criminals "supported" PNP or JLP
May be the gunmen who shot Bob were JLP supporters but I don't think it was strictly political, I tend to think it was tied to Skill and horse track.
And if Bob died, JLP would have been happy.
