Mr. Steffens holds a grudge against Bunny because Bunny worked with him on a book called Old Fire Sticks. From what I heard after all the work being done Bunny stopped the project from going further because he had been blackmailed by Rita Marley and threathened of being cut from any royalties if the book was to come out.
From that point of view I understand why Bunny would have chosen to let go of the book project. Mr. Steffens appreciation of Bunny Wailer is due to a circumstance Bunny was in, within a culture I do not think Mr. Steffens will ever fully comprehend, not being from the carribean. (no disrespect intended)
Bunny knew full well that he had better accept a deal from Rita than go to the Babylonien courts and to my opinion opted to do so. And now after never having gotten his just due and at an advanced age is playing his last card and just spilling the truth out regardless.
Rita Marley got married to Bob when Bob was ONLY 21 years old. Now this is young for any men and and certainly no age to settle down even less so when you are a local star. Bob cheated, had other kids, probably neglected his and Rita felt betrayed.
In the year 1974 where Bunny claims Rita came to him with revenge in her heart regarding Bob, Rita was clearly over with him since she got pregnant from another man. And like she said herself did not feel like a wife.
There is no telling how far a carribean women can sometimes go when she stops loving her man and starts using him as he used her. Especially when being disrespected along with her kids by other female lovers.
I have seen it MANY times, even ending in suspicious deaths, within the carribean community and would not be surprised if what Bunny claims would be true.
You need not think in other cultural terms than carribean otherwise this story will seem too farfetched.
I want to make it clear that like you I have no idea if any of this is true but I can assure you these things happens to far less wealthy men than Bob.

Bunny Wailer is to be repsected in those claims has he knew Bob before any of the people reapping the fruits of his work. Knew him as a friend and a brother and he is in a far better situation than any of us (even his kids who were children at the time) to comment on any Bob related topics.
May justice be serve whichever way it must go.
