I am not really qualified to do this, because I have lots to learn about reggae and the great artists of the past. But in honor of JA's 50th anniversary of Independence, I'll stick my neck out and take a shot. It's almost a conglomeration of who I think are the best and who I like the most. (To disambiguate a little I offer my top personal favs that I like to listen to at the end). I don't know the music of Inner Circle apart from jacob Miller and Miller did his best work with Augustus Pablo--Who Say Jah No Dread has to be top 10 or maybe top 5 all time non-Marley roots albums. Places JM into the super-elite category of immortals. I don't know Nasio... thanks for the tip, I will investigate the music of both IC and Nasio! bless

Re: My top 50 roots artists of all time
Alpha Blondy is not a Jamaican, but nowadays I would say he is the one who best represents reggae music coming from Africa. French reggae fans use to like Tiken Jah Fakoly a lot, and I would say some of them consider him to be greater than Alpha Blondy. For me it's relevant to see Marley's sons included in the list and not names like Joe Higgs. I'm sure people like Werner would include him in the top 10!
I was leaving Damian Jr. Gong off this list as arguably more of a dancehall artist... that may not be quite correct but I haven't really gotten into him yet. I saw him in Negril in '95 or '96 and you knew then he was going to be big... I really need to listen to all the Marley kids more!
