Interview - Articles By: Marco Virgona
REGGAE REBELS
"new" footage of Bob Marley

September, 1979: Vintage 60 minutes interview with Bob Marley and the Rastafarians in Jamaica. To get this story George Negus took a harrowing journey through Trenchtown - Kingston's most notorious slum. He and his crew needed a group of voluntary bodyguards to get them out safely.

this is the link (many thanks to our member Fabio for finding the interview)

Re: Reggae Rebels

I wrote "new footage" because there are some unseen footages: just fragments, just seconds
unseen for many of us

Re: Reggae Rebels

I did know the interview but only when journalist asked Bob what he would have to do to if he want to become a Rasta and Bob paused for a second then said: “First you would have to be born again"
So, for me, the rest is total unseen
Thanks thanks thanks

Re: Reggae Rebels

When the man asks bob if he must be black to be a rasta, and bob replies "do you have a choice?" then he says if you have a choice you better be black but if you dont....

what does he say after "but if you dont"? i cant tell.

Bob had a choice because he was half white and half black

Re: Reggae Rebels

interesting... do you think that is what he was reffering to?

because he easily could have begun to adapt to white culture in miami instead of learning about rasta and staying in jamaica. Im glad he choose what he did

Re: Reggae Rebels

Bob had two roads before him: one road to the "white" way of life for a musician and a superstar: money, clubs, parties, cocaine, pleasures of the world
other road to the "black" side of his being: africa, spirituality, herb, ghetto, children
He has chosen the road avoiding styles of the moment
If Bob had chosen the first road, he would have been like michael jackson and I think that one michael jackson is enough
